The title of my painting is Jesus Said Love Everyone. This comes from the old Latter-Day Saint children’s hymn:

“Jesus said love ev’ryone;
Treat them kindly too.
When your heart is filled with love,
Others will love you.”

Some of the greatest things I learned in church, I learned in primary. I believe that Jesus does love everyone. In my painting, Jesus’s arms surround a rainbow variety of people. He embraces us and gathers us all in.

In the scriptures, the number seven is sometimes used to represent perfection. This painting has seven sides, and while it echoes the LGBTQIA rainbow flag, the painting actually has seven rather than six colors. I want my LGBTQIA friends to know that they’re perfect. When I say perfect, I don’t mean there’s no room for improvement—every one of us has plenty of room to improve. What I mean is you are whole. You are God’s creation and God loves you just as you are.

The hymn says, ‘Jesus said love ev’ryone.’ Our goal is to learn to love as Jesus does. We have a lot to learn in our families, neighborhoods, communities, and churches. In the meantime, I hope you have people in your life that show you the pure love of Jesus. Anyone who knows you is lucky to be able to have you in their life.
